The 128th Air Refueling Wing: A Proud Military History

Throughout its history, the 128th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) has remained dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, readiness, and service. The wing’s presence in Milwaukee has not only contributed to national defense but has also forged strong bonds with the community.

Initially serving as a fighter unit during World War II, the unit evolved and underwent several re-designations before finally becoming the 128th ARW. Based at the General Mitchell Air Reserve Station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The primary purpose of the 128th ARW is to provide air refueling capabilities to both military aircraft and allied forces. Equipped with KC-135 Stratotankers, the wing specializes in air-to-air refueling, enabling aircraft to extend their range and mission capabilities. This crucial capability ensures that military operations can be conducted effectively and efficiently, whether it’s providing aerial refueling support to fighter jets, bombers, or cargo planes.

In addition to its core mission of air refueling, the 128th ARW is also involved in various humanitarian and disaster relief operations. Their highly trained personnel and adaptable aircraft allow the wing to provide critical support during emergencies, such as natural disasters or medical evacuations. This dual role of military readiness and community support reflects the wing’s commitment to serving both the nation and the local community.
